Over Farm has been taking passengers around
the farm since 2003 and now has two comfortable, covered trailers
(although we regret we have no tea making or toilet facilities onboard!)
There are various trailer rides held throughout the year,
and depending upon your chosen event are designed to be fun, entertaining,
educational or scary!!!
The trailers hold 28 adults comfortably or 42 children. Each has
wide steps to access the seats and has a wheel chair ramp to allow
two wheel chairs on each trailer. The side fences prevent children
from falling out (and the animals from getting in!) but still give
a good view of the farm and it’s surroundings. We do our best
to keep the side covers rolled up, but they can be dropped to keep
passengers dry in very bad weather.
We welcome any new ideas and are always happy to offer the trailers
for private hire.

The Severn Bore is one of the UK’s few spectacular natural
phenomena. It is a large surge wave that can be seen in the estuary
of the River Severn, where the tidal range is the second highest
in the world.
This can be witnessed aboard one of our trailers and it really is
a sight that won’t be forgotten in a long time.
Trailers depart from Over Farm Market about an hour before the tidal
bore is expected. The ride to the river takes about 20 minutes and
passengers are then free to walk along the river bank if they wish.
As the bore approaches, those wishing to join the chase must climb
aboard the trailer, ready to chase the tide as it rushes past. Anyone
choosing to watch from the river bank will be collected on the return
journey.
The chase will continue for about half a mile giving plenty of opportunity
for everyone to see it as it races up the river.
2010 promises to see some really good sized bores.
Next Bore: March 31st 2010
We will be doing a Bore Chase leaving the shop at 9.15 am. Cost
is £5 per person and will take about an hour. Please call
shop or email to reserve
a place.
Dates:
The dates for 2010 can be found by clicking
here.
Costs:
The bore rides for must be booked in groups of 10 of more for £5
per person. To book a trailer for a group (maximum 28 people per
trailer) only £100.
Duration:
Rides last approx two hours.
We can also arrange night-time BBQ's for the August and September
bores. Leave times will be approximately two hours before day time
schedules to allow time to enjoy the BBQ by the river before the
bore arrives.
Approximate costs would be £15 per person. A minimum number
of 20 people are required for this ride. Please express your interest
in one of the dates by emailing us your details.
It must be remembered that this is a natural event and can vary
in its size depending on weather conditions. Please wear walking
shoes or boots as you will be walking and standing in grass that
cattle have been grazing, and therefore cowpats are plentiful, and
whilst we don’t mind dirty trailers… we don’t
want them too smelly!

During 2004 we created a classroom out of
an old cow byre. This has proved very popular with schools around
the area that have arranged school trips to Over Farm.
Due to the diversity of the farm it is almost always possible to
tailor a visit to suit the current curriculum.
At the farm are very fortunate to have an enthusiastic teacher who
works with the children and helps them understand the ways that
food is produced. We try to demonstrate how the farm not only produces
food efficiently, but also does so in a way that benefits the environment.
Visits usually commence with a classroom session, followed by a
learning walk around the vegetable fields, chickens and ostriches.
Lunch is followed by a meeting with the farmer and an "Ask
the farmer" question and answer session.
Following this the students board the secure farm trailer and are
taken around the farm before being dropped off by the Farm Market
to see where the produce is taken to be sold.
The “living pizza” helps children to quickly see many
different crops in an interesting way. It is designed to enable
children to walk around and enables them to pick, feel and smell
some of the crops that go into a food they are very familiar with...
a Pizza.
We also offer groups or schools the opportunity to then make a pizza
themselves, in our specially created pizza kitchen. The pizzas are
cooked in a traditional wood fired oven.
There is also then an opportunity to see and pet the animals near
the market, before loading on the bus to go home.
